5" Begonia Rex Jive
Is a stunner with its bright, lime green foliage trimmed with deep burgundy, is a striking plant to look at and will add colour and texture to your home. They will bloom but even a cute little flower has nothing on the foliage of a Begonia. Even a Begonias love moderate to bright indirect light and you will want to turn the container weekly to ensure all sides of the plant get the same light love. Keep out of the direct sun which can scorch the delicate leaves. In the Spring and Summer keep the soil moist but don't let the roots sit in water either in the saucer or damp soil at the bottom of the pot to avoid root rot; Fall and Winter let the soil dry out between waterings; all the time keep water off the leaves to prevent spotting and leave powdery mildew that won't hurt the plant but will spoil the stunning colours of the foliage. A lover of the humidity, in the winter these guys will benefit from a nearby humidifier or pebble tray to keep the leaves from getting crispy. Toxic to pets.
Begonia Rex Jive comes in a 5" plastic growers pot, plant height ranges around 10" - 12" from the base of the pot.
Begonias are familiar plants you’ve seen in just about any front porch, garden, or planter. What you probably don’t know is that there’s more than 1,800 Begonia species! These perennial plants are native to the rocky, forested valleys and slopes of northeastern India, southern China and Vietnam. Begonias are colourful, attractive plants – their foliage sometimes a bit hairy (no razor burn, though) with prominent veins that can grow up to 12” long and 8” wide. Begonias are widely hybridized and cultivated for their showy foliage ranging in colour, texture and size. They can be easy to maintain as long as you identify what kind of Begonia you have – they belong to 3 categories: tuberous, fibrous and rhizomatous. Fibrous and Rhizomatous are much easier Begonias to handle as houseplants, while Tuberous have more demands and conditions to keep happy – much like the youngest child of 3.
