Ficus Plants
At Chive Plant Studio in Toronto, we sell ficus as indoor trees and tabletop plants, from the easy-going Audrey to the fiddle leaf fig, which needs a fixed spot and steady care. A ficus will stand in my shop looking like the healthiest thing on Queen West and drop green leaves on the concrete floor while a customer is mid-sentence about how healthy it looks. It goes home with someone who has just bought a condo with ceilings they can't afford to heat, and who is back in four weeks to report, in the voice of a person describing a breakup, that the plant has rejected their apartment. I send most of them home with an Audrey instead, which has the same tree-in-the-living-room effect and no opinions about your furniture.
Our ficus are grown by our nursery partners and brought to Queen West. They come desk-sized, shelf-sized and as floor trees, on one trunk, braided, or as a bush. The tall ones leave the shop lying down in the back of the van, wrapped in paper like patients, and an hour later they are standing in somebody's living room acting as though nothing happened. Most are easy. The Lyrata, the Benjamina and the Moclame are not, and we'd rather tell you at the till than hear about it in February.
Every ficus is potted before it leaves, and the potting is included. Delivered by hand across Toronto and the GTA. Pick-up is free at 702 Queen St W, and in winter every ficus is wrapped in paper for the trip home.
