Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

Mum flower meaning carries centuries of cultivation behind it, and few flowers carry more history in Japan specifically, where the mum has appeared on the imperial seal for over a thousand years. Fleur De Lis borrows a French symbol that has wandered onto flags, crests, and china patterns with no formal French approval, which the mum seems entirely unbothered by at all. Violet Blue reads as a diplomatic colour, calm on the surface, holding something more complicated underneath the surface. Office wall decor benefits from exactly this kind of composed, unshowy presence, structured enough to read as serious without demanding attention from anyone nearby. At 5 inches diameter, the piece holds its shape and colour with no watering schedule to track between meetings. Wadsworth Atheneum has held decorative arts spanning centuries of symbol-borrowing not unlike this one. The mum has outlasted every empire that borrowed its symbols. It isn't finished yet.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Two Borrowed Symbols

The fleur de lis has spent several centuries appearing on flags, crests, and dinnerware with no formal French approval ever granted for any of it, which France seems to have decided not to make an issue of at this point. The mum, meanwhile, has been cultivated in Japan for over a thousand years and appears on the imperial seal itself, which is a considerably longer and more official résumé than a borrowed symbol can claim. Putting these two together feels almost like watching a diplomatic exchange happen in ceramic form -- one side confident from actual history, the other confident from centuries of nobody objecting loudly enough to matter. Violet Blue sits over the whole arrangement like the colour of a conversation that is going extremely well on the surface, whatever is actually being negotiated underneath it. This piece never bothers picking a side, honestly. It just holds both stories at once, permanently, on a wall that will never ask either flower to explain itself further or defend its right to be there. The mum has outlasted every empire that ever tried borrowing its symbolism for a crest or a flag. This particular piece is not going anywhere either, symbol dispute or not, diplomatically or otherwise.

One screw. One keyhole on the back. Ninety seconds and it's on the wall. The video shows exactly how it happens — no special hardware, no second holes, no contractor on speed dial. Whether you're hanging one piece or planning a full gallery wall, the hanging guide walks you through both.

Designed to Share the Same Room

Part of the Japan Collection

The Japan collection learned its patience from rooms built around one object instead of a crowded shelf — an off-centre bloom, an asymmetrical bract, a glaze left looking unfinished. Every piece trades abundance for one flower a room needs. Violet Blue holds two centuries-old symbols in a single quiet colour, neither one raising its voice over the other. A colour-shifting protea from the same family pairs naturally.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. The Violet Blue Fleur De Lis Mum suits a quiet corner of an office or study, where its composed colour rewards the kind of sustained daily glance a desk invites. Displayed on a surface rather than a wall, it reads more like a small credential than a decoration, holding its layered form permanently without any upkeep whatsoever. Shop the fullJapan Collection.

Complete the Look

An office-appropriate mum in violet blue calls for a pot that will not look out of place beside a keyboard or a stack of folders. The Dyad Porcelain Pot's restrained shape and included saucer fit a desk without announcing themselves, catching drainage cleanly so nothing seeps onto actual paperwork below. Between the two pieces, the desk gains both colour and function without gaining any real clutter. Shop the Dyad Porcelain Pot and Saucer 3 Inch.

About Chive Ceramics Studio

This piece comes out of a small studio that has treated flowers less like decoration and more like an open design problem since its 2004 founding. Every piece begins with a rough colour idea, then survives a long stretch of correction before it is finished enough to show a customer. Most of that filtering work stays inside the building, visible only in whatever does not make the final cut. The founding premise was simple enough: flowers deserve to stick around permanently, not just get admired for a week before the wilting sets in and the vase gets emptied out. Twenty-plus years of testing later, that premise has aged noticeably better than most founding ideas manage to.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Fleur De Lis Mum hang on the wall?

The Violet Blue Fleur De Lis Mum mounts flat against a wall using a single nail through its reinforced back mount, requiring no wire or frame. It hangs the way a piece of wall art would, rather than needing a vase or shelf to display properly. Once mounted, it holds its position permanently without any adjustment needed later on.

What does a mum symbolize as a birthday gift?

A mum symbolizes joy, longevity, and in some traditions honour and respect, having been cultivated in Japan for over a thousand years with deep cultural significance attached. As a birthday gift, that symbolism reads as both celebratory and meaningful rather than generic. The Violet Blue Fleur De Lis Mum carries all of that history into a single permanent piece.

Is a ceramic mum a good birthday gift?

Yes -- a ceramic mum makes a strong birthday gift because the flower itself carries genuine symbolic weight around longevity and celebration, unlike many decorative flowers chosen purely for appearance. The Violet Blue Fleur De Lis Mum keeps that meaning intact while skipping the usual birthday-bouquet problem of wilting a few days after the actual party.

Does a mum work as sophisticated office wall decor?

A mum works well as sophisticated office wall decor because its structured, layered petals read as considered rather than casual, avoiding anything too playful or bright for a professional setting. The Violet Blue Fleur De Lis Mum's muted colour keeps it appropriate for a shared office wall. It requires no watering schedule that a coworker might forget.

Does the Fleur De Lis Mum ship in a gift box?

The Violet Blue Fleur De Lis Mum ships in branded, gift-ready packaging designed to be given directly, without needing tissue paper or a gift bag added separately. It arrives looking deliberately presented rather than picked up at the last minute before a birthday dinner. That detail tends to matter more than people initially expect.

What is a good ceramic mum gift for mom?

A ceramic mum makes a thoughtful birthday gift for mom specifically because the flower's long cultural history in Japan lends it more weight than a purely decorative bloom would carry. The Violet Blue Fleur De Lis Mum stays exactly as given, with no wilting to manage before or after the actual birthday celebration takes place.

Does a Violet Blue ceramic mum outlast a fresh one?

A Violet Blue ceramic mum outlasts a fresh-cut mum easily -- fresh mums typically last one to two weeks in water before declining, while this ceramic version holds its exact colour and layered shape indefinitely with no maintenance required. There is no vase to refill and no spent blooms to eventually discard. The comparison is not close.

Is a ceramic mum a good gift for mom?

A ceramic mum makes a meaningful gift for mom because it draws on centuries of cultural symbolism around longevity and respect, giving it more depth than a purely decorative flower choice. The Violet Blue Fleur De Lis Mum requires nothing further from her after the moment it arrives. It simply stays exactly as given, indefinitely.
