Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

Ranunculus meaning splits between what the botanists will tell you and what the flower appears to have been doing all along. The Powder Blue Amandine Ranunculus is a ceramic wall flower — handmade by Chive, carrying a variety name with more associations per petal than any ranunculus strictly requires. Amandine is not a ranunculus name: it belongs to a woman in a French novel who makes a series of increasingly consequential decisions in the third act. The flower itself is powder blue and layered and entirely innocent of these associations, sitting there looking like the story before it has decided what it is going to do to you. Ranunculus traditionally means radiant charm and the recognition that something was irresistible. This one lives on a single nail. No water. No wilting. No complicated follow-up. It ships in a gift box and is ready to give immediately. The Amandine Ranunculus is carried by the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

A Color the Ranunculus Never Grows

The Powder Blue Amandine Ranunculus got its name from a conversation we had once about Amandine, which is doing considerable work here and deserves acknowledgment.

Amandine is not a ranunculus name. Amandine is the name of a woman in a French novel who makes a series of increasingly consequential decisions in the third act, about whom you will have complicated feelings the author intended and will resent them for. The ranunculus did not choose this name. The ranunculus is powder blue and layered and entirely innocent of the associations it now carries, sitting there looking like the character in the first act — before anyone has made the decisions, when the light is still good and all options remain available.

We named our studio’s flowers after real varieties. We did not name Amandine. We kept the name because powder blue sits at the edge of a story that has not yet decided what it is going to do to you, and because the ranunculus, which has always been a flower of radiant charm, deserves to stay in the part where charm is still the whole story.

Our studio has made ceramic flowers since 2004, each starting from a live plant. It was built for the person who will get the joke without needing the setup.

The Blue That Started an Argument

The work at Chive started in 2004 with a live plant in our studio — usually something brought back from a flower market, sometimes a variety a grower sent because they thought we would understand what they’d made. We look at it. We hold it. We make a note about the color and the form and the way it changes when the light moves.

Then we work it in clay.

The ranunculus is a flower we have made in several colorways because the form is extraordinary: densely layered, fully occupied, a flower that appears to have strong opinions about how much is enough and has resolved those opinions in favor of more. The powder blue variety lands in a way that is not immediately explicable and does not appear to require explanation.

We shape and glaze every piece by hand. The studio has been open since 2004.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Powder Blue Amandine Ranunculus need special hardware?

Ranunculus meaning does not extend to installation requirements. The Powder Blue Amandine Ranunculus weighs under two pounds and hangs on a standard picture hook or a single wall screw. No anchors, no special drill bit, no wall prep beyond finding the right place to put something powder blue and radiant.

What is a meaningful 11th anniversary gift idea?

A meaningful 11th anniversary gift idea has to navigate the fact that steel is the traditional material, which is beautiful in theory and less useful as a decorating strategy. The Powder Blue Amandine Ranunculus is a ceramic wall flower with the enduring quality of the steel anniversary in a color considerably easier to live with.

Is a Powder Blue Ranunculus a good 11th anniversary gift?

Ranunculus meaning in the language of flowers: radiant charm, the acknowledgment that something was impossible to resist. For an 11th anniversary — the one that tends to get less attention than five or ten — a ceramic ranunculus in powder blue is a gift that takes the occasion seriously. Still on the wall for the twentieth.

Does a Powder Blue Ranunculus work as soft boho decor?

Ranunculus meaning in an eclectic boho room: softness that still has something to say. Powder blue at the layered density of the ranunculus form creates the kind of texture a wall notices before it can explain what changed. It does not compete. It does not recede. It is simply the best-looking thing in its corner.

What ships inside the box with an Amandine Ranunculus order?

Ranunculus meaning shipped complete: the Amandine Ranunculus arrives in a Chive gift box with wall hardware included. The box is gift-ready — no additional wrapping, no assembly, one screw in whatever wall you have. The name Amandine is doing a lot of work on the outside of the box. The flower inside is doing the rest.

What is a steel-anniversary gift with a soft, romantic touch?

Ranunculus meaning for the 11th anniversary: radiant charm, in a form never once accused of being cold. The steel anniversary calls for strength, but a Powder Blue Amandine Ranunculus in permanent glaze will still be on the wall for the twentieth anniversary, which is also a relevant form of strength.

How long does a Powder Blue Ranunculus last versus a fresh one?

A fresh ranunculus in powder blue lasts approximately one week before ranunculus meaning of charm becomes retroactive. The ceramic Amandine Ranunculus holds the color and layered form indefinitely in glaze. The anniversary gift you give for the 11th will be on the wall for the 21st without maintenance or wilting.

Is a ceramic ranunculus a good 11th anniversary gift idea?

Ranunculus meaning made permanent in ceramic is an 11th anniversary gift for the specific reason that it will outlast every other gift from that occasion. The Powder Blue Amandine Ranunculus ships gift-ready, hangs on one hook, and requires nothing except the occasional glance at a powder blue flower very pleased with where it ended up.
