Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

Zinnia meaning is one of those things people look up after receiving one and not quite being able to explain why it was chosen. This variety has made itself harder to explain than most. The Pewter Blue Zinderella Zinnia is a ceramic wall flower — handmade by Chive from a cultivar that took the original uncomplicated zinnia and put it through an experience: pewter blue, the colour of old mirrors, of weather on water, of a room where someone has recently made a consequential decision and the air has not yet recovered. What a zinnia means, traditionally, is endurance and lasting affection. What Zinderella means is something you arrive at on your own. It does not water itself, because it does not need to. It does not fade, because it is ceramic. It ships in a gift box, ready to give at whatever milestone it lands on. The Pewter Blue Zinderella Zinnia is carried by the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

The Zinnia That Went Quiet

We made the Pewter Blue Zinderella Zinnia because of the name, if we are being honest about it, which we are.

Zinderella is not a flower name. It is the name of someone in a fairy tale, specifically the part of that story we find most interesting — not the rescue, not the ball, not the glass shoe, which was never designed for actual walking. The part before all of that. The part where something that was always true about this flower briefly became visible: that it was always going to be pewter blue, always going to be ruffled at the edges, always going to be the zinnia that left the garden and moved somewhere with a more considered approach to natural light.

The zinnia is the flower of abundance. The pewter blue zinnia is the flower of abundance that has been reconsidered. It has taken the original uncomplicated form — the flower you grew from a packet and came back for in six weeks — and put it through something the original was not expecting and handled without incident.

Chive Ceramics Studio has worked this way since 2004, one flower at a time. Zinderella was decided on because the name and the form arrived at the same conclusion from two different directions, and we trusted that.

One screw. No contractors. No drama.

One screw. One keyhole on the back. Ninety seconds and it's on the wall. The video shows exactly how it happens — no special hardware, no second holes, no contractor on speed dial. Whether you're hanging one piece or planning a full gallery wall, the hanging guide walks you through both.

Designed to Share the Same Room

Part of the English Garden Collection

The English Garden collection borrows its chaos from cottage beds never pruned into submission — rambling roses, over-full peonies, zinnias that stayed uninvited. Every piece trades one fussy bloom for an overgrown afternoon. The Pewter Blue Zinderella Zinnia trades the zinnia's usual exuberance for something quieter, the colour of a room that's recently decided something. A softer daffodil rounds out the pairing nearby.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as part of a gallery wall that grows one piece at a time, or laid flat across an entryway console or shelf as a tablescape that never needs the water changed. The keyhole on the back handles the wall version; the base handles the surface version. Most people start with one flower and end up needing both configurations before they admit it.

Shop the full ceramic flower collection to start building either one.

Complete the Look

The wall flower handles the wall and asks for nothing further. The Paul Ceramic Pot, 5-inch handles the surface: structured, matte, the kind of pot that appears to have a considered position on how much decorating is enough. Together they suggest someone in the room has thought about this, which is a quality a room with an afterthought in every corner does not have.

A Room That's Decided Something and Isn't Saying

Chive Ceramics Studio opened in 2004 with the specific problem of wanting flowers to last longer than they do. That was the whole project. We were not interested in artificial flowers — we were interested in the form of a flower at its best, translated into a material that does not require water or attention or eventual replacement.

The translation happens in our studio, by hand, from live plants. We study a flower until we understand what it is doing, then shape it in clay. The glaze holds the colour without apology — some of our glazes are demanding of the viewer in a way a dried arrangement is not.

We’ve made hundreds of varieties. Some are easier to explain than others. We have learned to trust the ones that resist easy explanation, because those are generally the ones that belong somewhere specific.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Pewter Blue Zinderella Zinnia need special hardware?

Zinnia meaning in this context: permanent, zero upkeep, lighter than a framed print. The Pewter Blue Zinderella Zinnia hangs on a standard picture hook or a single screw rated for two to five pounds. No anchors, no special tools, no particular wall preparation. One hook and the zinnia has an opinion about the wall.

What is a meaningful 25th anniversary gift idea?

A meaningful 25th anniversary gift idea has to contend with the fact that 25 years is a long time and the obvious options have largely been covered. The Pewter Blue Zinderella Zinnia is a ceramic wall flower — handmade, permanently pewter blue, made from the variety whose name means something you arrive at on your own.

What does a zinnia mean as a silver-anniversary gift?

Zinnia meaning in the language of flowers: endurance and lasting affection. For a silver anniversary, those meanings land differently. The Pewter Blue Zinderella Zinnia carries them in a colour that has taken the original cheerful zinnia and put it through an experience — pewter, older, quieter, more considered. The anniversary flower for people who have been through something.

Does a Pewter Zinnia work as eclectic boho wall art?

Zinnia meaning in the context of a layered, eclectic wall: something that holds its own without explaining itself. Pewter blue is the colour of old mirrors and weather on water, and a Zinderella Zinnia in that colour on a gallery wall does what all good boho wall art does — it has something to say and does not compete.

Is a Pewter Zinderella Zinnia a good budget-friendly anniversary gift?

A zinnia meaning endurance, in ceramic, ships in a gift box with hanging hardware already included — no additional wrapping required, no assembly needed. It will be on the wall long after the anniversary flowers have been composted. For a 25th anniversary gift that lasts another 25 years, the math is fairly direct.

What is a silver-anniversary gift with lasting bold colour?

Zinnia meaning made permanent in pewter blue ceramic is a silver-anniversary gift that will be on a wall long after most gifts from that occasion have been used up or put in a drawer. Pewter blue holds in glaze the way it does not hold in fabric or paint. It does not fade, chip, or negotiate with time.

How long does a Pewter Zinderella Zinnia last versus a fresh one?

A fresh zinnia at its peak lasts approximately two weeks before zinnia meaning of endurance becomes ironic. The Pewter Blue Zinderella Zinnia is ceramic — the glaze holds the colour, the form holds the shape, and the 25th-anniversary gift you give in July will be on the wall at the 30th with no visible commentary on the passage of time.

Is a ceramic zinnia a good 25th anniversary gift idea?

A ceramic zinnia is a 25th anniversary gift for the specific reason that zinnia meaning includes endurance, and a ceramic flower is one of the few ways to make that meaning literal. The Pewter Blue Zinderella Zinnia ships gift-ready, hangs on one hook, and does not require the recipient to do anything after that except look.
