Curate Your Indoor Landscape With These:

Designed to layer beautifully in any room. Choose a piece as your design anchor, then build your custom pottery collection with these complementary companions:

The large Blue Layers is a glazed ceramic plant pot with a center drainage hole and a matching saucer, and at full size it stops hiding how complicated it actually is to make. What started as a mad-scientist experiment in the studio is now a large-format pot that requires real technical control to pull off, and we have never once minded the difficulty, because difficulty is, frankly, the part we enjoy most. There is nowhere on a pot this size for the technique to hide, and we built it precisely so it would not have to, the difficulty finally out in the open.

Glazed ceramic holds moisture more evenly than raw terracotta, and every large pot layers its own way. Sized for a floor or a statement plant, it gives the experiment the most room it has ever had. We are geeks, and this pot is the clearest evidence of that in the entire collection.

Potting Tips

  1. Repot in the evening.
  2. Wait 1–2 days after watering, then repot.
  3. Buy potting mix. Not backyard dirt.
  4. Move the top layer of soil from the old pot into the new one. It's a little ecosystem.
  5. Never go more than one inch bigger.
  6. Soil line sits an inch below the rim. Leca or small rocks at the bottom for drainage.

Pot Care instructions
  1. Dishwasher-safe. Can also be hand-washed with warm soapy water and a soft cloth.
  2. Glazed pots are dipped and fired in the kiln — they are sealed, durable, and not looking for trouble. No special cleaning products required.
  3. For pots with saucers empty the saucer periodically. Standing water in the saucer defeats the purpose of having a drainage hole, which is a thing we feel strongly about.
  4. Not frost-safe. Designed for indoor use and covered outdoor temperate weather use. Freezing temperatures are not recommended.

Blue Layers at Full Scale: It Stops Hiding the Work

At full size, Blue Layers abandons any pretense of being simple. The whole trick of the glaze, at smaller sizes, is that it looks effortless and conceals the ordeal behind it. The large pot cannot manage that concealment, and we are glad, because the truth is more interesting than the illusion. Across this much surface, the layering has to hold together with real technical control, and the margin for the batch to go wrong widens accordingly. We have lost large pots to that margin. The ones that survive are the clearest statement the line makes about how we actually like to work: take a problem nobody assigned, make it harder than it needs to be, and refuse to stop until the difficulty produces something worth the trouble.

We are geeks. The large Blue Layers is the loudest proof of it we own. The blues stack and move across the surface with a depth that reads, from across a room, as a single confident colour, and rewards a closer look with everything that confidence is hiding. Each one resolves differently, layered glaze keeping its own counsel as it always has. A centre drainage hole and a matching saucer sit beneath the complexity, the plain promise the whole line keeps. At this scale, the experiment finally has the room it deserved, and it uses every inch of it.

Potting a plant with Chive

  1. It's best to repot your plant in the evening. Trust us, we know.
  2. Repot 1–2 days after watering — keeps the same rhythm going and won't shock it.
  3. Potting soil is not the dirt from your backyard. Go buy good, nutrient-rich soil.
  4. The top layer of soil in your current pot should be the top layer in the new pot too. It's a little ecosystem your plant likes.
  5. Never go more than one inch bigger than your existing pot. "It'll grow into it" is not correct, and you will kill it.
  6. Keep the soil line about an inch below the top of the pot. Add some leca or small rocks to the bottom for better aeration.

The Ultimate Repotting Guide

For those who have killed a plant. Or several. Or, frankly, many.

Before you put a plant into your new pot, you have to get it out of the nursery pot — a process that ends badly more often than any gardening influencer will admit. We wrote a full guide: when to repot (early spring, and not when you're feeling impulsive in October), which soil to use, how to tell your plant is root-bound, and how to avoid the three mistakes that kill perfectly healthy plants within a week of a well-intentioned repotting.

The Same Glaze, Other Sizes

Blue Layers scales from a concentrated experiment to a full-room statement. The large is the technique with nowhere left to hide.

Drainage Is the Whole Point

A centre drainage hole and a matching saucer sit under the large Blue Layers, the plain promise beneath the most complicated glaze we make.

For the Part You Cannot See

The Minute Large in Blue Layers drains and holds moisture well, but a plant that has quietly given up needs more than a good pot. Verte Rx works on the roots and colour a pot cannot reach.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Minute Blue Layers ceramic pot good for?

The Minute is a ceramic pot for indoor plants. It works well for pothos, snake plants, peace lilies, philodendrons, and small ferns and suits modern, boho, and minimalist rooms. As a large ceramic pot, the Minute fits a shelf, sill, or desk and pairs cleanly with the rest of the Chive pot range. This listing is the Blue Layers colourway.

Is the Minute a plant pot with a drainage hole and saucer?

The pot is sorted. Now what goes in it?

Shido seeds come vacuum-sealed, non-GMO, and packaged well enough that people keep the packets after the seeds are gone. Which is either a design success or a problem, depending on how you look at it.

Your new pot is waiting.
