There's No Such Thing as Just One Ornament

Pick a favorite. Then accept that "just one" was never really an option.

A proper unicorn ornament commits completely, and the Unicorn Pink Ornament holds nothing back: hand-painted glass in unapologetic pink, 3.35 inches tall, 3.15 inches long, and 2.17 inches wide, horn included and non-negotiable. Body and horn are shaped separately at the flame and fused before the pink lustres and gold accents are brushed on, layer over layer, until the finish glows. The unicorn has never existed and has never once let that interfere with being instantly recognizable, which is a kind of conviction most real animals cannot manage. June wears sequins to the grocery store and has never in her life explained herself, and the tree with her ornament on it is simply better than the tree without it. Commitment like that improves everything nearby. This is the ornament equivalent of it. It brings the full-conviction sparkle of a TIFF midnight screening to any branch that will hold still for it.

The Story Behind This Ornament

June wears sequins to the grocery store, and when my mother once asked her what the occasion was, June looked at her with genuine confusion and said, Tuesday. She has never in her life explained herself and does not intend to begin. Her house is pink in a neighbourhood of taupe, her car is named Deborah, and her Christmas tree is a fully committed production that draws walking traffic from three streets over. The unicorn was destined for her from the very start. It does not exist, has never existed, and has not once let that interfere with being instantly recognizable, which June considers less a paradox than a mission statement: decide what you are and be it so completely that reality adjusts. When she unwrapped this one, pink lustre, gold horn, zero apologies, she said thank you in the tone of someone accepting an apology that was years overdue. It hangs at the exact centre of her tree, and the tree, she says, has finally achieved coherence. Neighbours photograph it. June waves from the porch in sequins. Commitment like hers improves everything within a certain radius. The radius, as best we can measure it, is three streets. And growing.

Care Tips

Storage Do’s and Don’ts:

(Because Yes, They’re Fragile)

  • Do wrap each ornament individually in soft tissue paper, bubble wrap, or a gentle cloth. (No, shoving them in a shoebox with tinsel does not count.)
  • Don’t let them clink around in a box together. That’s a recipe for heartbreak and glittery shards.
  • Do store them in a sturdy container (plastic bins with dividers = chef’s kiss) and keep it in a cool, dry place — no attics or sketchy basements, please.

Pro Tip: Label the box like your life depends on it.

Write it on every side, not just the top, since nobody unloading a truck reads the top first. If you're storing these for next year, do future you a favor and note what's inside beyond just "ornaments." A little specificity now saves a lot of bubble wrap archaeology in eleven months.

Ornaments Are a Great Gift. We Have Opinions About the Rest.

More Animal Christmas Ornaments

Our Animal collection is a census of the creatures who actually run our households, taken in hand-painted glass. Believers should also meet the Whale with Presents Ornament, generosity at scale.

Hand-Blown Glass Christmas Ornaments

Hand-painted glass rewards the close look, and every Chive ornament is made to be inspected at arm's length — the distance where trees are actually enjoyed. Our gallery of Animal christmas ornaments includes the real, the mythical, and everything household-adjacent, all of them finished with the very same fully committed sparkle.

Ceramic Flowers That Never Wilt

June's windowsill runs on the same doctrine as her tree: full commitment, no seasonal retreat. Our ceramic flowers suit the policy — Chive fires every bloom to hold its colour indefinitely, and her pink ones have kept pace with the house paint for years now. When the unicorn goes into its box each January, the flowers hold the line until it returns. She considers this continuity of government. The neighbourhood has stopped asking questions.

About Chive Studio

Chive's catalogue has grown strange and wonderful since 2004: ceramic peonies, garden pots, vases, and now a pink unicorn in hand-painted glass, and we can defend every entry. The through-line is conviction. We only make an object when we can commit to it completely, the flower that refuses to wilt, the ornament that refuses to apologize, because half-hearted things announce themselves eventually, usually in January. Our designers pitch dozens of ideas a year and most are declined, not for being odd but for being tentative. The unicorn was never tentative. It arrived at the pitch meeting fully itself, the way the best ideas do. We recognized it immediately. We had built a whole studio on the same principle.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have a unicorn ornament for the christmas tree?

We do — a fully committed one, in hand-painted pink lustre with a gold horn, shaped at the flame and fused before the layered finish goes on. June, who wears sequins to the grocery store, ordered hers the day it appeared on the site and has been referring customers from her porch since. Conviction, rendered in permanent glass. That is the product.

Is the Unicorn Pink ornament right for yankee swap?

The unicorn thrives at a yankee swap because whoever ends up holding it immediately behaves as though they engineered the outcome personally. June watched a retired accountant claim hers, sit back down, and radiate quiet triumph for the remainder of the party. A gift that confers instant identity is rare in any exchange. This one confers it every time.

Is the Unicorn Pink ornament a good gift idea?

For anyone who commits — to a colour, a style, a way of being — it is nearly a portrait. June's neighbours photograph her tree from the sidewalk, and she credits the unicorn with organizing the whole production around a thesis. Your most unapologetic person has been waiting for it, whether they know it or not. Give it to them.

What is the Unicorn Pink ornament made from?

Glass, worked in two parts — the body and horn are shaped separately at the flame and fused, then pink lustres and gold accents are brushed on layer over layer until the finish glows. June asked which of our painters had done the lustre, so she could direct her compliments precisely. Real glass, real layering, real shine. No shortcuts survive her.

What size is the Unicorn Pink ornament out of the box?

It stands 3.35 inches tall, running 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide — midsize by ornament standards and entirely unbothered by that fact. Presence, June maintains, is a property of conviction rather than volume, and she has the tree to prove the theory. It holds any branch and every gaze. Measurements only go so far.

How do I keep the Unicorn Pink ornament safe in storage?

Wrap the horn first — a twist of tissue around it, then the body, then a snug compartment in a lidded box. June stores hers in a pink case labelled DEBORAH II, a reference she declines to explain, in keeping with long-standing policy. Keep it away from heat and crush pressure. The lustre keeps its glow for decades.

Do you have more animal ornaments like the Unicorn Pink?

The whole spectrum of belief — our Animal christmas ornaments run from the documented, like the Sea Turtle, to the aspirational, where the unicorn presides without rival. June paired hers with the Whale with Presents, calling them the two best available arguments for generosity of imagination. The collection rewards commitment. Hers is total.

Does the Unicorn Pink ornament ship gift ready?

It ships protected rather than presented — secure transit packaging keeps the horn and lustre flawless on the road, but there is no gift box, so the wrap is yours. June wraps hers in paper she screen-prints herself, which is exactly as on-brand as you imagine. June says the reveal deserves paper worthy of the horn. Arrival is guaranteed to sparkle.

A Promise Fresh Flowers Can't Keep

Fresh flowers make a promise they cannot keep. A Chive ceramic flower skips the wilting and arrives with the kind of presence that suggests someone spent real time choosing it, whether or not that is true. No water. No sunlight. No expiration date to plan around.
