Default Nursery Pot or Upgrade to a Chic Chive Pot
Our plants come in the standard nursery pot unless you opt for one of our snazzy Chive pots. Keep in mind, each plant is a unique snowflake—size, shape, and quirks may vary. We do our best to deliver a plant that resembles the online glam shot and will thrive in your home, but perfection is a tall order.
Pot Size vs. Plant Size: It’s Not You, It’s the Container
We like to keep things almost simple—plants are measured by the size of the pot they’re in, not how tall or fabulous they currently are. When someone says a plant is “in a 6-inches,” they’re talking about the diameter of the container, not the plant itself. That gorgeous fiddle leaf fig might be towering over your sofa while technically still being “in a 10-inch pot.” Height? Totally subjective. It depends on the plant species, its mood that day, and how mature it feels like being. So next time you’re plant shopping and wondering why your “small” monstera could double as a room divider—blame the pot. Not the plant.

How to take care of your Alocasia
If plants were celebrities, the Alocasia would be that glamorous star with high cheekbones, a private chef, and a demand for Evian water—only slightly less dramatic. Known for its stunning arrowhead leaves and exotic jungle vibes, the Alocasia is both a showstopper and a bit of a handful. But fear not, plant lovers—with the right care, this bold botanical beauty can thrive indoors.
Care Level
Moderate: Needs some attention
Let’s be real—Alocasia is not your basic, no-fuss snake plant. It demands a little more love and attention. But it’s not impossible! Think of it as a plant that wants to be understood. Once you dial in its needs, your Alocasia will reward you with luxurious growth and those signature leaves that scream, “Yes, I do own an Instagram filter.”
Light Requirements
Bright, indirect light is the sweet spot for Alocasia. Too much direct sun will scorch the leaves; too little light, and you’ll have a sad, leggy plant throwing a botanical tantrum. South or east-facing windows with filtered sunlight are ideal.
Watering
Water your Alocasia when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Be consistent but avoid soggy soil—this plant is not a fan of wet feet. It thrives in moisture but despises overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Reduce watering during its dormant phase in winter.
Humidity and Temperature
Alocasia plants crave humidity like a Kardashian craves a camera. Keep humidity levels around 60% or higher. A pebble tray, humidifier, or regular misting will keep those lush leaves happy.
Keep things tropical with temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C–27°C). Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature drops—they cause stress and leaf loss.
Soil
Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark works wonders for Alocasia roots.
Interaction with Pets
Sorry, pet parents—Alocasia is not pet-safe. Its leaves contain calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation, drooling, or worse if ingested by cats, dogs, or curious toddlers. Keep it high and out of reach, or choose a pet-friendly alternative like a Calathea or spider plant.
Alocasia Family
Alocasia is a genus of around 80 species of tropical plants native to Asia and Eastern Australia. Often called Elephant Ear plants due to their striking, oversized leaves, Alocasias have become a houseplant favorite thanks to their unique veining, vibrant green or purplish foliage, and statuesque structure.
With varieties like Alocasia Polly, Alocasia Zebrina, and Alocasia Amazonica dominating social feeds, this plant has earned a top spot in the world of decorative indoor greenery.
