Cleomes thrive in average garden soil or rich, well-drained loam. With good soil and mulch, they don't require additional fertilizer.
Spider flower, technically an annual but sometimes survives longer in Florida. Elsewhare it can self-seeds, providing perennial presence. Standing 3-4 feet tall, it offers a striking focal point in annual gardens. Its pink, purple, white, and lavender blooms attract hummingbirds and butterflies throughout summer. Easy to grow from seed, it thrives in full sun, requires minimal care, and resists pests and diseases. Also known as Cleome or Pink or Violet Queen, it's drought and heat tolerant, ideal for outdoor gardens, and resistant to deer and rabbits.
